Sorry to answer a bit late !
For the gauze I took an old sheet, a old bedclothe to be exact, in cotton, just make the bandages with it, by tearing the sheet, it works very well. Then, take a white tank top, in cotton too, put it on you, and wrap yourself with the bandages.
Begin by the neck, put the first bandage like a scarf, and make the two extremities cross on your chest, pass it under your shoulders, and tie it on your back. And you just have to put the rest of the bandages on you, make them pass under and up the first bandage, a bit like a braid, then hide the end of the bandages in the bandages.
I did it like that, I hope you understand what I mean here, I'm french so my english can be a bit messy.
You have to wrap yourself in bandages everytime you want to put on your cosplay, but the result is always good. You can also fix the gauze with glue for textil, it works.
